Genesis 1\u20133 isn\u2019t just about how the world began\u2014it\u2019s about who God is<\/strong>. From the very start, He provides for humanity, gives us freedom to choose, and pursues us even when we fail. When Adam and Eve sinned, shame and fear followed, yet God came looking for them and lovingly covered their guilt. These chapters reveal the God who provides, pursues, and covers<\/strong>. They point us toward His mercy and redemption from the very beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join me as I study Genesis 1-3 using The SOAP Method<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SCRIPTURE: Genesis 1-3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Creation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • God created the heavens and the earth out of formlessness and emptiness\n
      \n
    • Day 1: Light<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Day 2: Sky<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Day 3: Land, sea, vegetation<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Day 4: Sun, moon, stars<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Day 5: Sea creatures, birds<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Day 6: Land animals, human beings<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Day 7: God rested, blessed the seventh day, and declare it holy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • God created human beings in his own image (male & female)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • God blessed them:\n
        \n
      • Be fruitful and multiple (fill the earth)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Reign over the rest of creation (govern the earth)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • God declared everything He made very good.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Life in the Garden<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          \n
        • God gave the vegetation he created as food to the humans and animals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • God created the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to work and care for it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • God placed two trees in the middle of Eden. One was the tree of life. The other was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • God commanded Adam not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If he eats from it, he will die.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • God saw that it is not good for the man to be alone. He created Eve from Adam’s rib as a suitable helper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Adam and Eve lived together in innocence, without shame.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          The Fall<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
            \n
          • The serpent deceived and tempted Eve by questioning God\u2019s command.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Eve “wanted the wisdom it would give her.”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Eve and Adam ate the forbidden fruit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Their eyes were opened, and they became aware of their nakedness and shame.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Adam and Eve hid from God when He came to walk in the garden.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • God confronted them, and each shifted the blame.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • God pronounced consequences on the serpent, the woman, and the man.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • God promised a future victory over the serpent<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • God killed an animal and clothed Adam and Eve with its skin. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • God sent them out of the Garden of Eden. He guarded the way to the tree of life with a flaming sword.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            OBSERVATION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
              \n
            • Genesis is a book of the law, not a science or history book. It’s important to hold our scientific conclusions and questions with an open hand. This book isn’t necessarily here to answer them. It’s here to REVEAL GOD.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • God created the environment and the provisions (vegetation) first. Then, he created the living creatures (animals + humans). This shows that GOD PROVIDES<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Everything was good except the fact that the man was alone. Everything was good until sin entered the world.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Eve added to God’s command.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Eve wanted to be like God. She wanted the wisdom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • After Adam and Eve sinned, they felt ashamed, they hid from God, and were afraid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • The cloud of guilt and shame separates us from God. It affects our fellowship with Him.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Sin, until confessed and forgiven, makes us want to run and hide from God.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • God came looking for them the day they sinned. <\/strong>As He brought them from their hiding place, He surely reminded them that they must die for their sin. But He did not kill them. Instead, He killed and innocent animal and clothed them with the skins of that animal. The punishment (death) was paid by a substitute, foreshadowing the Messiah that would redeem the world and save all who would receive His forgiveness of sin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Even though God Adam and Eve’s sin brought about consequences, God still showed them love and mercy!<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • “God gave all humans considerable freedom, and that includes the opportunity to goof up. […]. If there had been no forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden, humanity would have had no opportunity to make responsible or irresponsible choices. When Adam and Eve made the wrong choice, God allowed them to suffer the consequences. Although He did not approve of their disobedience, He loved them enough to let them make a decision and live with the results […]. He allowed Adam and Eve the freedom to the choice. In a similar way, if we give children freedom and loving acceptance, they will sometimes make choices and things we don’t approve of.” (Parenting with Love and Logic<\/em><\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n
              \n
              \"A<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

              APPLICATION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                \n
              • God is a God that provides. God prepared the environment and the food before creating Adam and Eve. In the same way, He will provide for our daily needs<\/strong>. \n
                  \n
                • \u201cSo don\u2019t worry about these things, saying, \u2018What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?\u2019 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don\u2019t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today\u2019s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:31-34 NLT)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • We need to be careful not to add to God’s commands. We need to be faithful to God’s word.<\/strong> We should not add to it, nor take from it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • As humans, sometimes we are greedy and want things that do not belong to us. Greed and lead to sin.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • If we don’t obey<\/strong> God’s commands, there will be consequences. However,<\/strong> we need to know that God still loves us and cares for us.<\/strong> God comes looking for us in our sin and wants to restore us to Him.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • We need to discipline our children. After we’ve disciplined them, we still need to show them that we love them (clothing = hug, repair, apology).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                  PRAYER<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

                  Heavenly Father,
                  You are the God who reveals Himself\u2014not just through what You created, but through who You are. From the very beginning, You showed us Your heart. Before You created humanity, You prepared the environment. You made the land fruitful, the earth abundant, and the world ready. You are a God who provides, and You always go before us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Forgive us, Lord, for the times we worry about tomorrow, forgetting that You already know our needs. Teach us to trust You fully, to seek Your Kingdom first, and to rest in the truth that You are faithful to care for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Father, help us to honor Your Word. Guard our hearts from adding to Your commands or reshaping Your truth to fit our desires. Like Eve, we are often tempted to reach for wisdom apart from You, to want control, or to be like You rather than depend on You. Reveal any greed or disobedience in us, and lead us back to humility and trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  When sin entered the world, shame followed. Adam and Eve hid from You in fear\u2014but You came looking for them. Thank You, Lord, that You still come looking for us when we fall. Thank You that guilt and shame do not stop You from pursuing us. Instead of leaving us exposed, You covered us. Instead of immediate death, You provided a substitute. Even in judgment, You showed mercy. Even in consequences, You showed love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  We thank You for the foreshadowing of redemption\u2014for the promise that sin would not have the final word. Thank You for Jesus, the perfect substitute, who covers our shame and restores our fellowship with You.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Father, help us understand Your loving discipline. Teach us, as parents and as Your children, that love allows freedom, and freedom allows choice. When there are consequences, help us to pair correction with compassion\u2014to discipline, but also to embrace, to repair, and to reassure with love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  We come before You now without hiding, without fear, trusting Your mercy. Cover us again, Lord. Restore us. Walk with us. And help us live each day in grateful obedience, confident that You care deeply for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
