Reading the Bible is one of the most transformative spiritual disciplines a believer can cultivate. But sometimes, traditional approaches—like reading straight through from Genesis to Revelation—can make it hard to see how God’s unfolding story fits together. That’s where chronological Bible reading plans come in.
Chronological plans arrange Scripture according to the order events actually happened in history, helping you understand context, narrative flow, and God’s redemptive plan in a deeper and more connected way. There are different chronological reading plans available, such as:
For the purpose of this blog, I will be using The One Year® Chronological Bible Reading Plan from Tyndale House Publishers. This plan rearranges Scripture into 365 daily readings in the order biblical events occurred, letting you experience creation, covenant, prophecy, the life of Jesus, and the early church in a seamless, historical way. Each day’s reading is manageable—often requiring about 15 minutes—and helps you develop a consistent rhythm of daily Scripture engagement with an emphasis on God’s unfolding narrative.
Some editions, like the NLT One Year Chronological Study Bible, go beyond the text and include:
- Daily introductions that set the stage for what you’ll read.
- Reflective questions to help internalize and apply Scripture.
- Era-overviews and visual charts that highlight major movements in Scripture’s big story.
These additions make it more than a reading plan—it becomes a guided study journey.
Alongside The One Year® Chronological Bible Reading Plan, I will be using the SOAP Bible Study Method to journal my time with the Scriptures. Hope you join me in this journey of getting to know God deeper and deeper.
